FAQs

Is timber suitable for high elevation decking, or balconies?

Yes, and TRADA recommend that timber is oversized in order to provide an extra safety factor.  We would also recommend, if timber is to be left untreated, that a durable or better species should be used, or that care should be taken with the correct treatment specification.  Consideration should also be given to liquids or items falling between the gaps of the decking, and there are propriety products that can be inserted between the boards if this is a concern.

Timber Decking: The Professionals' Manual 2nd edition

Further information can be found in our Timber Decking Manual, 2nd Edition, a comprehensive guide to the design and specification of timber decking.  We also provides a range of services for building designers and product manufacturers to assist with timber cladding queries, as well as training and cpd.
