FAQs

My strength graded timber looks poor quality?

Strength grading processes do not take into account the aesthetic appearance of the piece. Visual graders assess the size and location of the timber characteristics against the permissible limits in the standard. These limits have been determined for strength purposes only.

Defects, including but not limited to bark pockets, wany edges, splits, or sapstain may be allowed in structural timber.  If the piece is to be exposed within the structure, further consideration should be given to the specification of the timber.
