How can I avoid a slippery deck?

Figure 5.4 Anti-slip inserts in deck boards Photo: HLD LtdGaps of a minimum 8mm should be provided between each board.  This allows water to drain away, and allows the boards to expand when they pick up moisture.  Grooves can be cut into the boards to provide extra ‘grip', and proprietary anti-slip inserts can also be provided.  The deck must be cleaned regularly to help avoid any algae build-up, or other deposits that may present a slip hazard.  You can find some additional information in the case studies section of our website, and in our decking book.
