What fixings should I use?
Stainless steel fixings should be used. Typically, screws are to be recommended, although nails may be adequate for softwoods. Boards less than 75mm in width can be single fixed, and boards up to 150mm should be double-fixed at quarter-points. Pre-drilling oversized holes in the decking boards will allow the boards to expand and contract across the grain in response to changes in moisture content, and this is recommended particularly for hardwoods.
